Pathophysiology of Diabetes

The cause of Diabetes mellitus in dogs and cats may differ but the pathophysiology remains the same:

  • An absolute or relative insulin deficiency
  • Reduced tissue utilization of glucose
  • Extracellular hyperglycemia and intracellular hypoglycemia
